The Toy

My faithful steed for this Journey shall be my 1992 Toyota Pickup. Recently aquired for the reasonable price of $1400, it has since become my primary means of transport.

Over the course of my Journey, the Toy will serve as my transportation and housing. To properly equip it for such paramount duties, I’ve performed several modifications.

The back of the truck contains a custom wood loft. I’ll be able to store all equipment underneath the loft, while sleeping on top. Hinged doors allow easy access to all hidden supplies, and gear bins are attached to pull-strings for quick access to food and outdoor equipment. A ginormous homemade cushion fills the loft with about four inches of sleep-friendly softness.

To power my laptop and various other small electronic devices, I’ll be using a 400w DC-AC power inverter. Rather than running high amperage through the tiny power wires behind my dash, I’ll be running heavy duty wires directly to the battery.

For some reason, the Toy came without a lighter socket. A dual lighter-socket has been spliced into the same heavy duty wires used for the inverter. This will power my MP3 player and other small things. The whole shebang has a cool/absurd on/off pull switch mounted beneath the inverter.

This truck is equipped with a super-fancy engine cooling system. It’s so effective, in fact, that the needle in the temp guage always points to cold. Either that, or the temp guage is broken. Hmmm…
